Feds Feed Families Extension |

Feds Feed Families Food Drive has officially been extended. Although our last pick up date for all agencies was originally scheduled for Tuesday August 31, 2010 we have been given two more weeks to Feed More Families! Our new final date for food collection is Thursday, September 16th 2010. This extra time should be used by all participating Federal Agencies to make one last effort to donate as much as possible. We appreciate all of your hard work and look forward to successfully meeting our goal |

Introducing the 1st Annual CHCO Council Leadership Awards |

These awards are given to Chief Human Capital Officers and Deputy Chief Human Capital Officers for their dedication and commitment to advancing and substantially improving Federal Human Resources through their participation and leadership in the Chief Human Capital Officers Council. Recognition will be given to individuals and groups who lead, create and promote advancements in the federal HR field through their work on the CHCO Council, that will have major impact on a government-wide level. |

The inaugural Call for 2010 Nominations will be from August 17th until September 15th. Only Council members (CHCOs and Deputy CHCOs) may make nominations for these awards. Self-nominations will be accepted. Council members can only nominate one nominee per category (one CHCO, one Deputy and one Working Group). Nominations may be submitted electronically (click header) or in hardcopy and must include the Nomination Form, and a narrative description of the achievement. |

CHCO Council Annual Fall Innovation Forum |

The Chief Human Capital Officers Council Annual Fall Innovation Forum is set to kick off on the evening of September 29th, 2010 in scenic St. Michael, Maryland. OPM Director John Berry and other notable speakers are scheduled to participate over the two day offsite event. All CHCOs and Deputy CHCOs are expected to attend.
Agenda highlights include Council strategic planning, Leadership Diversity, Team Building, and the first Annual CHCO Awards event. |

OPM is hosting a Veteran’s Symposium on July 28-30, 2010 to review and discuss methods of recruiting and hiring of the veteran population. Federal Veteran Employment Program Managers, Hiring Managers, HR Practitioners, Agency Employment Counselors, Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors, and other Federal employees supporting the Federal Veterans are encouraged to attend. On June 3, 2010, the Talent Management Advisory Council for the Veterinarian Medical Officer (VMO) occupation met at EPA to provide feedback on the Strategic Workforce Plan being prepared by the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Hearings conducted on February 26, 2009, emphasized the important function the VMO profession plays in the Federal Government’s role to protect public health and food safety from natural and man-made threats. CHCOs Show Support at Feds Feed Families Kick-off |

The Department of Energy came out of the gate strong, setting the tone and issuing a friendly challenge to other CHCOs at the start of the 2010 Feds Feed Families food drive. Making a Day 1 donation of 252 pounds of food, Michael Kane and Rita Franklin showed how serious the DOE is about this cause. Rita discusses the campaign with Channel 8 News. |

OPM will host the Feds Feed Families training session for participating Agency Chairs and Champions on Wednesday, to prepare teams for the summer-long food campaign. Last year was a great success, and collectively the participating agencies collected the goal of 1Million pounds of donated food. This year, the goal is 1.2Million pounds. On May 4th, the refresh for the CHCO Council website goes live. Enhancements to the first phase of the refresh include Agency spotlights, CHCO and Deputy bio's, and front page News and Events. Old features such as the Transmittals page, are still available. Future updates will include building a CHCO online community through blogs and shared best practices. |

This week 26 members of the CHCO Council attended the Interagency Resource Management Conference in Cambridge, MD. For three days, CHCOs and Deputies attended informative sessions related to human resources, cross functional leadership, high priority performance goals, and other relevant topics. Highlights included a private lunch and conversation with OPM Director, John Berry, and a closed CHCO Council meeting on the 14th, where Council strategic goals were discussed. |
