MEMORANDUM FOR CHIEF HUMAN CAPITAL OFFICERS
From:

John Berry
Director

Subject:
Presidential Management Fellows Hiring Estimates for Fiscal Years 2010 and 2011

For more than 30 years, the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program has helped Federal agencies meet their succession planning needs by providing the next generation of Great Leaders for Great Government. Each year, the PMF Program recruits thousands of graduate, law, and doctoral level students from all academic disciplines in top graduate schools across the country and around the world. More than 400 PMFs enter the Federal Government every year, and the quality of the candidates is exceptionally high.  For additional information on the PMF Program, please see the new PMF brochure for agencies on the PMF website at www.pmf.opm.gov/Documents/PMFAgencyBrochure.pdf

Each year, OPM reaches out to agencies to determine their hiring projections for the PMF Program.  Currently, we request your agency’s PMF hiring needs for fiscal year 2010 and preliminary planning estimates for fiscal year 2011. Your input will be a factor in determining the number of finalists selected for 2010. When compiling your projections, please notify us of any preferred graduate degree programs you would like targeted by the PMF Program.  Please forward your PMF hiring estimates and preferred graduate degree programs to the PMF Program Office, at pmf@opm.gov or via fax at 202-606-3040, no later than Friday, October 30, 2009.

In creating and implementing your agency’s estimates, we encourage you to engage your hiring managers and your Agency PMF Coordinator.  Agency PMF Coordinators are a vital link between agencies, hiring managers, Fellows, and OPM’s PMF Program Office. A list of current Agency PMF Coordinators can be found on the PMF website at www.pmf.opm.gov/ACoords.aspx.  If your agency does not appear in the list and your agency is interested in participating in the PMF Program, please contact the PMF Program Office.

Finally, I want to take this opportunity to remind you Presidential Management Fellows are available for hire year round, providing a constant stream of available talent.  So, even though we are beginning the recruitment process for 2010, there still are more than 300 finalists from the PMF Class of 2009 eligible for immediate placement with graduate degrees in Business, Finance, Environmental Science, Health Administration, Physical Science, Public Administration and more from graduate schools throughout the world.  Agency PMF Coordinators have access to the list of finalists currently available.  Should you have additional questions about the availability of finalists and Fellows, or general program related inquires, please contact Mr. Eric Brown, PMF Program Manager, at 202-606-1040 or pmf@opm.gov. Thank you for your support of the Presidential Management Fellows Program.
