DC Federal Jobs Initiative—Summer 2001

As the DC Federal Jobs Initiative—Summer 2001 progresses, I encourage each of you to give this notable program your personal attention. Over the past five years this initiative has employed thousands of young men and women residing in the DC area, while simultaneously providing agencies with enthusiastic and innovative new employees. As a leader, you have a unique opportunity to introduce hundreds of students into the workforce through this community-based initiative.

Each year, we strive to reach a goal of 1000. Last year, many agencies stepped up to the plate and the program employed a record breaking 906 students. We are short of that mark today and need your re-doubled efforts so students in the area may receive valuable work experiences.

With your support, I know we can considerably increase the number of students employed through this program, which provides long term benefits across the federal government. By hiring students, each participating agency gains exposure to a diverse and talented applicant pool interested in pursuing public service careers.
