In an effort to fulfill President Obama’s stated commitment to increase the employment of individuals with disabilities in the Federal workforce, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and Department of Labor's Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) are collaborating with 50 other Federal agencies to sponsor and organize a daylong historic Federal Government-wide Hiring Event for individuals with disabilities on April 26, 2010, at the Washington, D.C. Convention Center. This is NOT a traditional job fair where resumes are collected and filed away. Rather, this Hiring Event is dedicated to recruiting highly qualified individuals with disabilities into the Federal Government. The success of this Hiring Event will be measured by the number of individuals with disabilities who are actually hired.
In order to support this Hiring Event in April, there is a training session scheduled for February 9, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., to provide hiring officials and HR Specialists with the tools necessary to develop an improved pipeline and process for hiring and retaining people with disabilities. This event will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building. See attached. Please plan to attend this event, along with your agency’s hiring officials in order to become an actively engaged participant in the April 26th Hiring Event.
If you are interested in registering for the training event, please send an email to Michael.Aguenza.Ctr@tma.osd.mil. All agencies who would like to participate in the hiring fair should submit the name and email address of a point-of-contact to April.Davis@opm.gov by February 12, 2010.
This is your opportunity to become part of the solution. I urge you to participate in this historic Hiring Event. Collectively we can reach at least 2% in 2010!
