President Bush has given us the charge to improve Government performance by implementing his cutting-edge management agenda. As part of OPM's leadership responsibility and ongoing efforts to train and educate Federal managers and executives, we are offering a practical, nuts-and-bolts workshop on the five Government-wide initiatives. We are working with the Office of Management and Budget to design sessions specifically for your senior career program managers.
The sessions in this workshop will be organized and led by the "owners" of the initiatives who will share best practices and useful tools that will help your agency get the "green" light on all five initiatives. I strongly believe that our success as leaders is directly tied to the successful implementation of this Agenda and our career executives are key to implementation. I will send my executives responsible for our major operations and I encourage you to do the same.
The workshop will be held twice, on February 13 and 26, 2002, at the Academy for Educational Development at 1875 Connecticut Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. Enclosed is a registration form that will also be distributed to your Human Resource Director. Registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.
In introducing his management agenda, President Bush said, "...good beginnings are not the measure of success. What matters in the end is completion. Performance. Results." The five Government-wide initiatives in particular call for us to reform our operations as they require Government to "rethink its purpose - how it defines what business is and what services it should provide" (the President's Management Agenda). This workshop, and other offerings to follow, is designed to provide practical tools and help create the mindset that supports reform.
I look forward to seeing your key executives at these sessions. If you have any questions, please contact Joe Riddle at 202-606-1959 or jrriddle@opm.gov.
