Scholarship For Service

First, I would like to extend our congratulations and a word of thanks to those of you who helped make the Scholarship For Service program a success in its very first year. This summer, 26 students who received special academic training in information assurance are serving summer internships at over 15 Federal agencies across the country. A number of others are engaged in special projects at their universities. Those of you who availed yourselves of the opportunity to participate can attest to the benefit of using this program to add to your cadre of information assurance specialist resources.

For those of you who have not yet participated, you're in luck! It is not too soon to plan now to place students for fall internships. At least 15 students will be available for placement in the fall. For the most part, these students are currently attending the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California and are already in the process of obtaining a security clearance. This should facilitate their ready placement in areas where computer security work takes place.

These students under the Scholarship For Service program are being specially trained to join the cadre of professionals that protect your information infrastructure. Better yet, they are being recruited and "groomed" at virtually no cost to you. Do yourselves a favor and act now to meet your critical information security needs. Please contact Kathy Roberson in the SFS Program Office at to obtain a list of students available for placement. Ms. Roberson may also be reached at (210) 805-2423, extension 506.
