MEMORANDUM FOR:

Subject:
U.S. Office of Personnel Management Employee Assistance Conference “Federal EAPs: New Challenges for the 21st Century”

We invite you to attend our upcoming conference "Federal EAPs: New Challenges for the 21st Century," to be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2002, from 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. We hope that you will encourage your staff members and colleagues to attend as well. A program description is attached for your information.

The conference will focus on contemporary challenges facing Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs), and should be of interest to a wide range of agency leaders and human resources professionals in addition to EAP staff. In today's highly stressful world, issues such as workplace stress and trauma cannot be delegated to the EAP; they need the careful attention of all who are concerned about the effectiveness of the federal work force.

In addition to addressing traumatic stress, the conference will provide expert instruction on other issues of broad interest, including outcome measurement, the interaction of the EAP with other programs such as Employee Relations and Equal Opportunity, and compassion fatigue in employees whose jobs involve caring for others. Our speakers on these topics include nationally known and respected experts from the academic, mental health, and Federal communities.

The conference will take place in the Theodore Roosevelt Building, 1900 E Street, N.W., Alan K. Campbell Auditorium, Washington, DC 20415. This building is located at the intersection of 19th and E streets.

There is no charge for attending the conference, but pre-registration is required by Friday, November 29, 2002. Seating is limited, so register early. You can register by either email at: CTCRJLM@opm.gov or fax at: (202) 606-2319. Please be sure to include your name, agency name, title, phone number, and email address. Each attendee should register separately.

I look forward to seeing you.
