Nathaniel H. Benjamin began his career serving in the United States Air Force and later worked in several civilian positions for the Department of Defense as an HR practitioner with specializations in classification, staffing and HR program management. In 2011, Nathaniel was selected as the Deputy Human Resources Officer for the T Bureaus at the U.S. Department of State where he led the civil service staff for three bureaus supporting its arms control and international security missions. He performed this role by managing the full range of human resources to include classification, staffing, performance management, employee relations, and strategic planning. Nathaniel's most recent appointment was at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) from 2016-2020 as the Human Capital Director and Deputy Chief Human Capital Officer. While at OMB, he managed its human capital office and led the Agency's strategic planning and policy development, workforce development & employee engagement efforts, and developed its diversity and inclusion strategy. Now as the Deputy Chief Human Capital Officer at the U.S. Department Education, Nathaniel provides executive leadership in the Office of Human Resources.A native of Washington, DC, Nathaniel holds degrees from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, University of Baltimore and Johns Hopkins University. He is the husband to Angela Benjamin and the proud father of a son, Andrew and a daughter, Naomi.
